Memórias de Pau-Preto e Marfim

This project briefly summarizes the final result of my master's project, a research on family archive animation and its potential to tell new stories from it. This research focuses on my family's journey and connection to the Portuguese colonial past, based on the testimonies of my grandparents who were settlers in Quelimane, Mozambique (on my mother's side) and my grandfather who was forced to fight in the Colonial War in Angola (on my father's side). From these oral and recorded testimonies, I developed a 15-minute animated documentary shortcut that blended 2D animation, archival documentation, and public archive footage. The written work was edited into a physical book and presented along with the film and archival material in an exhibition at the college's museum. This project was supported by a fellowship from ID+ – Instituto de Investigação em Design, Media e Cultura and FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
