The Essential Guide to Bollywood

An invaluable guide for lovers of Bollywood films, the author chose to review the best 2000 Hindi films ever made since the 1940s. The design had many requirements. The reviews, arranged by genre and illustrated with stills from the films, were the major players - I used a different colour to distinguish each genre, and the reader can tell the sections by the page colouring without even opening the book. There were a number of standard details such as year, cast, director, etc, to be included at the beginning of each review that needed a consistent design so they were easy to spot: I used a simple text-based format with bold and regular type for ease of use. Each spread needed to incorporate a fact box of trivia and anecdotes about the genre. The book also has a timeline of films and landmark events in Indian cinema, which I chose to run along the bottom of each spread. Above all, it had to be a fun, funky book that reflected the films made in Bollywood.
