RELICS CAMPAIGN THESIS 2014

During the spring of 2013, several stories emerged that exposed the destruction of ancient pyramids in Mexico and Central America. One incident included an unknown pyramid in Belize which was completely torn down for parts to construct a road. And another incident in Mexico where a Walmart was built on top of one of the oldest heritage sites. There are many more incidents that the public has not been made aware of—and many more to come if we do not act.

There are hundreds of heritage sites scattered all throughout Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Yet each country have only restored a few sites and tend to only focus on one. Mexico has a site called Chichen-Itza because it is the largest and closest to Cancun. Belize has Altun Ha, and Guatemala has Tikal. This leaves the majority of the other sites unattended and unprotected from the weather and looters.
