This project was commissioned by RetailX for their 2022 Ranking Reports. They were releasing a total of 20 reports across various sectors and markets and seeking different covers for each report while retaining a common language. Discussions with the RetailX graphic team resulted in a soft playful direction, conveying an optimistic note about the future of the post-COVID-19 world. The structure of the main artwork was built procedurally with NodeBox (a node-based programming environment). This made iterating on the same structure relatively simple compared to traditional approaches and had the added benefit of animating the covers for promotion on the web. The generative approach also shortened the design and delivery time significantly. The output from the code being vector made it suitable for multiple formats including print. The art was finally composited in Illustrator with text and graphic elements.
