Galactic characters

This is a project of transforming galaxies and planets into characters!

I always saw many artists doing their versions of planets as characters and I really wanted to do my version. It took 3 months to complete this project and I'm really happy with the result - I'll definitely repeat it in the future!

.

Now I'll introduce the 12 characters that were inspired by our universe:
Each character will be accompanied by a greyscale and the color pallete used next to the reference used!

.

1.Andromeda Galaxy

While researching saw that we don't know a lot about our neighboring galaxy, so I decided to give an air of mystery to this character. I wanted her design to be as elegant as a galaxy and that I could match with something that could represent the spiral design. That's how I came with the idea of doing it in a lush hat with a classic outfit and in her hair an allusion to cosmic dust full of stars.
2. Milky Way Galaxy

As it comes to our galaxy I wanted to add a crown with suns and stars, because she's a queen. The hair has the same meaning as Andromeda, but I wanted to do something different, so I did a milkshake to make a lil joke with her name. And to show the spiral of a galaxy we have the dress skirt.
3. The Sun

Trying to represent the brightness of the sun in his hair was a challenge. But after a few attempts I managed to leave in way that could show it.  And as the Sun is the star in the center of our solar system I wanted to give more nobility to him, so his outfit is inspired by clothes that princes and soldiers of the 19th century used to wear.
When I started making the planets I had to represent in their clothes or accessories!

4. Mercury Planet

When I started to do the planets, I already knew that Mercury would be a postman. So I was inspired by postman's uniforms from 40s and 50s. And to represent the colors of this planet I put them in the letter he delivers.
5. Venus Planet

Venus has this name because of the greek goddess of love and beauty. So I wanted that besides beautiful and elegant, her outfit would do the same. I did her dress as close to the reference and adding a lot of shine, because Venus is the brightest planet of our solar system.
6. Earth Planet

When the time came to do the Earth I wanted to do as the most friendly and because it is our home I wanted to bring elements that only Earth has, like flowers. And as here we can travel anywhere I did her with maps to show her adventurous personality. And I did our precious Moon as a ring on her hand.
7. Mars Planet

On Mars surface is found iron and using this fact I wanted this character to be a blacksmith. His scars came from the many craters found on the surface of the planet, 'cause it's been hit by a lot of asteroids, so he's a person who's been through a lot before he became just a blacksmith.
8. Jupiter Planet

Jupiter temperature is a lot cold so I did him using a cape that inside could have some of the colors of the reference. Jupiter has a lot of satellites and I wanted to make them as if they were ornaments of the chains of his cape. And since it's the gas giant I wanted to make this character like a baron or a duke.
9. Saturn Planet

The planet of rings has to have rings! So in addition to bracelets, earrings and rings I wanted to make a beautiful hair accessory inspired by these Asian pins. And just like Jupiter, Saturn has many satellites so I decided to leave them as ornaments of the accessory.
10. Uranus Planet

Uranus is the coldest planet in our solar system and that's why I decided that this character would wear clothes from someone who lives in very cold weather. And one thing I didn't know is that Uranus has rings! And I didn't want to repeat what I had already done with Saturn, so I decided that what would represent these rings would be a circular frame glasses.
11. Neptune Planet

Despite coming after Uranus, Neptune isn’t so cold, so I decided to leave him with lighter clothes, those that still served for a cold weather. And as Neptune is known as Windy planet, I wanted to make a joke, just like I did with  Milky Way and gave him a watch with a wind rose.
12. Pluto Duarf Planet

When I learned about the solar system I was told that Pluto was a planet, but that changed when I was 8 and now It is a dwarf planet, even so I wanted to finish this project with it. As the sunlight arrives very weak on Pluto, because It is very far away, I imagined a character who lives in a place where the light is low and so he has to use a flashlight to see things around him.
