Fringe is a fifteen second TV series opening sequence that uses a minimal design approach to deliver an effective motion graphic. The series is based on a sci-fi story that focuses on the mysterious and eerie characteristics of reptiles. The use of high contrast lighting attributes when shooting the video enabled me to emphasize the unusual textures and shapes on these animals. Using subtle movements, blurs, and a low contrast in the typeface, I was able to divert the viewers’ focus on the movement within each segment. The overall dark and gloomy feel of this motion is intensified by the music and the synchronized movement of each element.
