Art Nouveau
My inspiration for this environment was Victor Horta, the father
of Art Nouveau. His early work consisted of architecture in this
style, which featured design elements like winding curves of flora,
asymmetry, and whiplash lines.
Horta’s buildings in Art Nouveau contained open spaces with
large windows; this allowed for a significant amount of natural light to
enter rooms filled with ornamental and sculptural designs with floral
motifs.
This movement's strong ties to nature made the best fit for an idealistic
country setting.
Googie
My inspiration for this environment came from Helen Lui Fong, the mother
of Googie. Her work was heavily influenced by The Space Age and The
Atomic Age along with Mid-Century Modern.
Googie featured elements such as bright neon colors paired with organic
materials like wood and stone. Other elements included upswept roofs,
curvilinear geometric shapes, and Space Age motifs that symbolized motion.
Fong's designs resembled a romanticized version of a small town suburbia
from the 1950s.
