Tarzan: The Stage Musical - Costume Design

Utah State University 2014
Director: Ken Risch
Scenic Design: Dennis Hassan
Lighting Design: Bruce Duerden

For my design, I wanted each group of animals to appear like they came from their own culture or tribe. The apes in the play are really rounded out as a family group and I wanted the plants and bugs to also have the same feel.

"Two worlds one family" is one of the key themes in Tarzan. This became one of my visual goals, make all the creatures and animals look unified and from the same world. Made from shredded knits, the apes are an iconic look for this show. I chose to unify all of the animals by using shredded knits on all of them. The shredded knits in the costumes also paired nicely with the shredded materials used in the scenery.
