For more than 50 years, the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) has nurtured Eagle Scouts to become respectable and responsible leaders who conform to the Scout Oath and Law. In line with its mandate, NESA offers the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA), the group’s most prestigious award. DESA aims to recognize outstanding Eagle Scouts who have achieved national recognition, eminence, and fame in their profession or service. In addition, recipients of this award also have a long and demonstrable history of volunteer service to their communities.

To qualify for the award, applicants should have a minimum of 25 years of “Time in Service,” since the date an Eagle Rank was confirmed. The time period is mostly the average time most nominees take to establish a career, receive various awards, and earn peer recognition, among other DESA selection criteria. Applications are reviewed by a committee of Distinguished Eagle Scouts, who evaluate all nominations and name the award winners. When time allows, the committee also shares feedback on nominations that would likely be considered in the future.
