Book design for contemporary artist Timo Heino's monograph Timo Heino is a contemporary artist whose work researches matter and materiality in space, time and symbolism. This monograph was published to accompany the artist's major exhibition at the Helsinki Art Museum, and to collect Heino's works and career into one volume. In addition to encompassing works from throughout his career, the book includes an essay from critic Harri Kahla, and a discussion between curator Mikko Oranen and the artist. In a way similar to Heino's play with materiality and rhythm, this artist book makes sophisticated use of classic book design, with a twist. The text sections stand as separate entities printed black and white on smooth off-white paper. The polished gallery sections translate the experience of viewing the actual sculptures and examining the pieces from different angles. The publication features squishy cover boards and foil stamped titling, further building on the artist's play on materiality and ambiguity. Read Less
