Material Handling

This is a first year material course of my design college in which we had to take an inspiration from nature and create our own product. This is a High Density Thermocol(HDT) which is used to make prototypes of the models. This is a miniature model of a computer mouse inspired from the shape of a fish.
Making a mask from 6 by 6 inch Aluminium plate was the most difficult exercise but fun. The shape of a face is achieved by constant tapering with the help of metal bowl die and hammer. The scratches on the metal are removed with the help of sand paper. The shine and finishing is achieved by the technique of buffing. The picture below is unbuffed mask and the next two pictures are buffed final product.
Sculpting a flower and a product (a human skull in my case) from 'Maharashtrian Shadu' clay was a different experience. The final outcome was achieved with the help of several special clay tools like fettling knife, loop tool, pin tool, etc.
