NHL Expansion Concept

The final project prompt for the course Design Technology was to create a final work which utilizes three applications. We have been learning about different applications throughout the semester. Our knowledge of these applications needed to be demonstrated in our final project. Our work could include multiple components and our final presentation could be print, digital, or a combination of both.
One goal I had for this project was to learn more about placing images on mockups in order to create better presentations. I downloaded many free mockups from the website Behance. Mockups give clients a better idea of what the final product will look like. I believe working on this skill made the final presentation of my work more visually appealing. Another goal I had was to use my photoshop skills to jersey swap on current hockey players. Since this is a fictional NHL team, there weren’t any real photos of the players. I had to edit the Little Rock Fireworks logo onto a different jersey in order to make my player posters and social media posts. The goals I set for myself for this project were challenging and pushed my graphic design skills. I would like to continue to set ambitious goals for my projects in the future.

For my final project in the course Design Technology, I created brand guidelines for a new NHL team, the Little Rock Fireworks, using the applications Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign. At some point in my career, I would like to intern for a professional sports team. Because of that, I thought this would be a good project to have for my portfolio. I have grown up watching sports with my dad and my brothers. Ever since I began to show interest in graphic design, my brothers have sent me articles on different sports designers. They also love to point out to me their favorite team logos and jerseys. This is one of my favorite ways to bond with them. This project was a fun way to connect my personal life to my graphic design skills. My final project contains a set of logos, colors, and typefaces, jerseys, tickets, a team schedule, player posters, and social media posts for a fictional NHL team. My final presentation is a combination of print and digital works.

Working on this final project taught me a lot about sports graphic design. I had to research current professional sports teams and their branding. I noticed what design choices were popular in sports graphic design. I have never worked with sports graphic design before, so this was a little out of my comfort zone. It was good for me to expand my skills and try something new. I enjoyed working with sports graphic design and I would like to complete many more projects like this in the future!
