Logo Redesign for Gujarat Biotechnology University
For one of the assignments for 'Word and Image' module at NID, we had to create or redesign a visual identity, by applying the principles of semiotics. The word, image and symbology must come together to achieve this. To make the most of opportunities at NID, I volunteered to work on a live project for IDS (Integrated Design Services) where the brief required to re-design the logo and brand identity for Gujarat Biotechnology University.
Graphic Design faculty Shilpi Munda guided me from the client's perspective, along with inputs from Jagadish Kumar, who anchored this module.
I started with case-studies of University logos, began brainstorming key words,
along with a visual study of the term 'biotechnology'. The association of 'testube' with biotechnology proved to be the strongest so eventually, I proceeded with that concept.
To conclude, a 32 page 'Visual Branding Guidelines' booklet was compiled and submitted, that detailed out the story behind this logo, its correct useage across mediums, the Dos and Donts, logo applications with some suggested samples, etc.

As of the live project, my faculties mentioned some members from the client team appreciated one of my initial concepts, so I shared some additional explorations. These did not go ahead in the live project. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the process and learnt a great deal from my mistakes. My appreciation for logo forms and branding continues to grow, thanks to this module.
