Matariki Calendar

In recent years there has been an increased awareness among New Zealanders of the place of te reo Màori in Aotearoa, our unique cultural identity and the wider cultural traditions of Màori. One of the most significant celebrations in the Màori calendar is Matariki, the indigenous New Year. There are many things you could do to mark Matariki in your own special way. Some may be based on traditional Màori ways of celebrating and some could be things you have thought up for yourself. Màori respect many cycles in nature which indicate favourable times for certain activities, such as fishing and agriculture. A good example of this is the monthly lunar calendar which runs from new moon to new moon.

This piece of design is not only a calender but the back folds up into a booklet with more infomation about Matariki.
