I created 'Negative Space' after seeing the deterioration of my grandma due to Alzheimer's disease. Through the loss of who she was before, my grandma became someone else and her loss of memory took her a place of comfort. I researched the physical and psychological changes that occurs as Alzheimer's progresses, so I could reference a more detailed perception of the disease. I used bleach as my medium, painting it onto film photographs to create a portrait of my grandma. I used the photo film to represent her memories and how the bleach erodes away at them like the disease.
