Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys - Stereoscope
Single Cover Art & Visual Loop

Stereoscope is the first single from Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys' upcoming album, which will be out through Unique Records in the Spring of next year.
The idea behind the visuals, created by Julia Schimautz/DTAN Studio, was to play with the concept of the stereoscope - a device by which two (almost) identical images overlap to create the illusion of depth. Julia filmed two videos of Lucy which were then interwoven, with the intention of creating a single complex image.
To achieve this they used 148 frames from each video, which were then printed with an inkjet printer. From the one set of frames, they cut out vertical slices and lay them over the second set, so that half of the resulting image was coming from video 1 and half of the image from video 2. This part of the process was entirely analog. Cutting and pasting by hand allowed for all the frames to be slightly different, inviting movement, shadow, and imperfection. The layered frames were then scanned in and reassembled.
