THE REQUIRED TEXT:
Miami University, Department of Theatre presents 2022–2023  MainStage Season  |  Life of Galileo  |  Written by Bertolt Brecht  |  Directed by Dylan Jacobson  |  October 28–November 9, 2022  |  Gates-Abegglen Theatre
Tickets: $27 for more information visit www.miamioh.edu/theatre
The 2022–2023 season opens with a politically charged glimpse of the life of Galileo. While in exile from Germany due to his political beliefs, Bertolt Brecht wrote Life of Galileo, a complex play where questions are posed but never fully answered. Unable to resist his desire for scientific investigation, Galileo’s
research and theories about the solar system bring him to the attention of the Inquisition. He is scared into publicly recanting his discoveries but continues working in private, despite his self-contempt. This intense drama is an examination of the problems that are faced not only by scientists and freethinkers but anyone whose ideals conflict with the government or accepted ideology.
