"Reazioni Accidentali" - Note sulla superficie fotografica

IT La tecnica fotografica, come molte altre, non è predeterminata una volta per tutte al momento della sua invenzione. Il suo  senso è sempre in corso di formazione e prenderne possesso  significa ricostruirlo. I significati delle operazioni fotografiche vivono nelle loro realizzazioni e mutano col mutare degli orizzonti  che esse rendono visibili. Ogni oggetto fotografico è portatore  di una doppia visibilità: esso ci mostra sì un’immagine che può esaurire la nostra attenzione alla sua presenza, a ciò che ci fa  vedere, ma nel contempo il senso dell’immagine rimanda alle  operazioni con cui essa è prodotta e alla tradizione tecnica con cui esse ci sono giunte. Con “Reazioni accidentali” si vuole mettere in evidenza uno dei principi costitutivi della fotografia, ovve ro quello della superficie sensibile. La pellicola sensibile viene “esposta” come un oggetto decontestualizzato dal suo normale  uso e si mostra con nuove e inaspettate caratteristiche.  Ma non assistiamo unicamente a un’azione di sottrazione dal  contesto originario, assistiamo invece al manifestarsi della connessione tra supporto sensibile e mondo reale. Assistiamo all’inconscio della macchina che agisce su una pellicola fotografica,  che ci mostra l’invisibile e l’infinitamente piccolo.

EN Photographic technique, like many others, is not predetermined once and for all at the time of its invention. Its meaning is always being formed, and to take possession of it is to reconstruct it. The meanings of photographic operations live in their achievements and change as the horizons they make visible change. Every photographic object is the bearer of a double visibility: yes, it shows us an image that can exhaust our attention to its presence, to what it makes us see, but at the same time the meaning of the image refers back to the operations by which it is produced and to the technical tradition by which they have come to us. With "Accidental Reactions," one of the constituent principles of photography, ovve that of the sensitive surface, is meant to be met-emphasized. The sensitive film is "exposed" as an object decontextualized from its normal use and is shown with new and unexpected characteristics. But we do not merely witness an action of subtraction from its original context; instead, we witness the manifestation of the connection between the sensitive medium and the real world. We witness the inconsciousness of the machine acting on a photographic film, showing us the invisible and the infinitely small.
