Cozi Bean Inn & Lodging

What is better than having a friend with you when you travel? Obviously a furry friend. One challenge a lot of travelers have is having a pet-friendly hotel, but what if we took it another step? Cozi Bean Inn & Lodge is a brand experiment for a small hotel that offers the ability for guests to have furry residents as roommates for the night in addition to being a pet-friend hotel. At Cozi, more friends equal more fun. Looking to appeal to travelers who vibe with the weird and vibrant metro of Austin. Our challenge was to balance the comfortable, stylish hotel with furry friends for you to enjoy.

Wanting to be known as Austin’s destination inn for cozy rooms and cuddly critters! Cozi is located near Austin’s delicious local restaurants, a thriving shopping district, with easy access to museums, parks and so much more. Customers can enjoy the hub of Austin’s culture while enjoying the companionship of the resident cats, dogs, or rabbits right from your hotel room.

The aim of the design was the be playful but chic, two very different ideas. We chose to use a very clean, sophisticated concept that utilized modern fonts and colors but have a lot of spirited textures and illustrations. Teal and orange colors were chosen as a bright and contrasting palette to play with the opposing ideas. For the font, we used Urbana, a contemporary san-serif that was easy to read, but the curves and weight were fun.

To highlight the fury companions, I created an array of illustrations of each of the residents that could be used in marketing and social media. Each of the mascots had the same flat, graphic style, but was crafted to show their personalities. They were also a great opportunity to use as the merchandise that people could take home and give as souvenirs. So you’ll find them not only on the site and resident brochures but also on shirts, hats, and mugs.

For the logo, I focused on the two most popular residents a dog and a can. The duality is highlighted in the shapes I used for each, the orange cat is composed of mainly circles and ovals, while the teal dog is boxy and square. Everything we created focused on the duality concept. The project was to be branded to showcase a high-quality vacation spot that was made for enjoyment.
