Amy and Laurie Romance Book Versus Films

Amy and Laurie in the book are ….wholesome.
You can see how they mutually inspire each other to grow and do the right thing. Laurie´s entire perspective on life changes when Amy lectures him and he realizes that he can be more than what he is.
Amy realizes that marrying Fred when she doesn´t love him is only going to hurt her and Fred and that in order to be happy she needs to listen her heart.
Little Women movies: Laurie moves from Jo to Amy, no explanation given.
I was making a podcast episode with my friend Melodie about Laurie´s proposal to Jo and something stuck with me. Laurie behaves like a little boy who is trying to be a man. He is angry and throws his fist when Jo say no. Jo behaves like a girl trying to be a mother. She pets and him calls her “her boy” (not a man, lover, husband..but her boy). Laurie thought he loved Jo because Jo was the one who gave him that attention, that petting. He had no parents and he didn´t get that from his grandfather.

When Laurie is in Vienna and he is composing, his mind creates a dream woman. A princess he gives attention. He drowns her into gifts. When Laurie proposed Jo he said that Jo doesn´t need to work, he has money, that solves all her problems. He didn´t understand the value of work.
When he does falls in love with Amy, Laurie ran to her. Pets her and he gives her assurance, which is something that Amy in that moment needs. Jo is not somebody who needs it. So Laurie can be that prince for Amy, and Amy didn´t mind it.

Laurie's character arc is missing from most LW adaptations.
