Lemon Slice

This was another experiment in composing an illustrated magazine spread. The topic would be illustrating a recipe that would be shared to an audience of readers, and the goal was to successfully convey the recipe to the audience with the illustration rather than just the text. I decided I wanted to work with yellow as a color and randomly came to choose a lemon slice as a recipe to work with. I think that the style here was influenced from listening to a lot of old Genesis albums lately, and it inspired me to come up with an old-fashioned almost Victorian English feel to the drawing.
Like the Stratos spread I had done a few moths prior, I inked over a pencil sketch and then applied flat colors in Adobe Photoshop. The lineart of the drawing was given a slight sepia tone which had a burned appearence against the applied parchment background texture. It took a lot of adjusting before I was satisfied with the appearence, but I'm pretty happy how it all came together.
