Peace in Mexico
31K Portraits for Peace is a personal project that I started with Daniela Gutierrez last February 14th in the city of Austin, Texas.
31Mil Retratos por la Paz es un proyecto personal el cuál comencé junto con mi productora de fotografía Daniela Gutiérrez (@Dany_Gtz) el pasado 14 de Febrero en la ciudad de Austin, Texas.
The objective of the project is to counteract the negative impact that the 31 thousand deaths have caused in Mexico in the last four years. So, in order to do that I take portraits and later install them in the most violent streets and cities in Mexico with the words "Peace Starts By Believing". The first urban intervention was done in Ciudad Juarez, Chiahuahua. People helped me to install 100 portraits and I will continue to do so in other 19 cities.
La intención del proyecto es contrarrestar el impacto negativo de las más de 31 mil muertes que han sucedido en los últimos cuatro años en México a causa de la violencia a través de intervenciones urbanas las cuáles se estarán realizando en las 20 ciudades mas violentadas de México. La primera intervención se realizó en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Son 100 retratos los que se estarán instalando en las calles de cada ciudad, para el final del proyecto tener 2mil retratos por todo lo largo y ancho de México.
Up to this day, I have been able to take more than 10 thousand portraits in 8 states of Mexico as well as the cities of Texas and in the near future I will be doing so in Los Angeles. I plan to complete my mission by October.
Al día de hoy (9 de Junio, 2011), he retratado a más de 10 mil personas en 8 Estados de la República Méxicana, así como en Texas y Los Angeles.
31K is an artistic-social project, that has no religious, political or ideological belief behind it. I am doing this for peace.
