Personal Project: Online course Branding illustration with Kate Larsen (The AOI).
This is a project for the online course Branding Illustration with Kate Larsen, organised by the AOI. The brief asked for packaging illustrations for two chocolate bars for Melt Chocolate, an artisan producer using coco from independent producers in Cote d’Ivoire.
The illustration presented shows two cocoa beans in the middle of the composition to reinforce the quality of the ingredients used. One of the beans is opened, and the style of this part of the illustration reminds etching engraves talking about adventures of past times, when cocoa was made artisanal; the second bean appeared closed with an embossed technique with gold foil on top, reinforcing the message of luxury ingredients. This illustration appears in both flavours.
The ingredients of each flavour appear over impressed with a screen silk finish on top of the cocoa beans, appealing to a person who appreciates good quality cocoa but is willing to try new flavours, as was asked in the brief.
Finally, the pattern design is used as a unifier for the whole range. The design is based on traditional clothes and fabrics from Cote d’Ivoire a working as reminder of the origin of the cocoa of this brand.
