This Piece is made to consider memories and how they can ultimately control our experiences without notice. This lead me to explore how a memory can change the spaces and architecture of our everyday and the effect the memory might have upon it. Long term memories are created through acoustics, visuals, and emotion and these three key elements  together can ultimately change a space from what could be a walking path near the river into only that memory engrossing the space. These long term memories take over and distort the viewers perceptions of the space, but we often tend to over look this distortion. We become blind to the marks of a memory on the space, continuing to resent or admire the memory rather then the space itself. I used a fiberglass material to represent the change; the fiberglass is translucent on the under yet completely reflective on the outside. This represented our failure to see the space but the space could see us clearly. My choices to cover the Greenwich Pier in London was one that I find tends to have emotionally heightened experiences for many. Seen as a tourist or must see area, many couples or families tend to make life long memories.
Throughout the piece I precisely choose each space I believed would hold deep emotional connection to many, using my Fiberglass textile to make them see or consider what perhaps is under or what they can not see. Stairs lead us throughout life yet their presence is unheard. The memories they lead us to are only what is marked inside us, leading us to whatever they may face us with. I believe they mark a huge significance to everyone, holding memories to everything. They are subliminally the gateway to our most important memories, from the simplest of walking to our home to the steps made to gain your diploma. What happens to each set of stairs once they have lead us to a memory, what do we think of as we walk on them, how do we feel, and yet how do we not inherently notice this change in space? How can we have such strong emotional connection to something like a flight of stairs without even taking note of atmosphere we have now created? By creating a change in the space I was able to make them see the 'memory' or change in space they have created. We no longer are entranced by our thoughts but are questioning why there has been a change in space. I have visualized how their memory has distorted the space.
