When the immolating light dispersed, Branwen heard screaming. It came all the way from the cathedral—deep in High Verdania—and down towards Amalgam Street. It was not a scream of terror, but rather a disturbing cacophony of rage and pain. Then, there was an eerie silence. The sudden hush sent shivers down her spine. It did not matter that she had been a knight for years. She tightened her grip on her sword and peered outside her carriage.

She saw an increasing wave of terror. Verdaniis scrambled through the blood-besmirched street of High Verdania. And she saw an abomination covered in black fur—much like a beast but also a man. It moved with guile towards her carriage. Its hands soaked in blood. Before Branwen could escape, the beast ruptured the wooden wall of her small shelter. As she drew her sword to protect herself, she recalled the curse that the White Heretic—Kadmon—had unleashed upon the King. That he and his subjects will become powerful and feared throughout the world. That they shall become Horrors of Morbidia.
