The Burnout Generation Editorial Illustration
Finding out how to illustrate this was a long process. I made about 4 or 5 different thumbnail ideas, before finally settling on what felt the most real; a self-portrait. Being a millennial with ADHD and an anxiety disorder, burnout has plagued my life. I wanted to show here that it's different from being lazy, it's more of being overwhelmed.
I wanted the final illustration to feel chaotic, hence the multiple light sources, multiple points of interest, and the sketchy lines. There's rent notices, police cars outside and on the news, twitter notifications, and missed due dates on the calendar. The bed isn't made, and the room itself is based on my small studio apartment. In addition, the whole scene takes place at night. School and work take up the entire day, leaving only late at night to work on art commissions and work for clients.
