Hot Six Labels - Six Jönköping Major

INTRODUCTION

The ESL FACEIT Group and Ubisoft hired me to help create the labels for seven different hot sauces for the "Hot Six" video series. This content piece was filmed as part of the Six Jönköping Major in late 2022 organized by ESL FACEIT Group and Ubisoft.

The challenge was to create seven unique label designs with each having a different design languague and atmosphere.

The show was inspired by the american tv show "Hot Ones". In Ubisoft's iteration pro players must answer different quiz questions regarding Rainbow Six Siege and it's esports scene and have to try one sauce for each question they get wrong.

Each label refers to a Siege operator that has to do with fire, heat or similar themes that fit the topic of danger and hot sauces.

The obvious choice for the first sauce of the series was the Recruit. The operator in Rainbow Six Siege designed for beginners but often played as a joke. The idea sparked to replace his classic barett for a red chili pepper as shapes and colors matched quite well and it's a good way to marry the theme of Siege with the hot sauces.

Besides that the label design was inspired by classic craft beer labels, meaning the overall design languague is very ornate and quite detailed.

For the second label which featured Capitao we decided to go with a pirate flag theme. The illustration features a skull with the well known black eye patch of Capitao as well as his barett and two burning crossed bolts referring to his ability.

Additionally the skull has markings inspired by mexican culture and Día de Muertos. Everything is quite colorful with vibrant yellow, orange and green tones.

The chosen font resembles fire and if you look closely you can spot a small bolt in the letter "O" of the word "BOLT".

The theme for Goyo's hot sauce is very tropical, with bright and warm colors which fit the color of the actual sauce. Goyo is shown on a tropical island with a vulcan erupting. This refers to his operator icon which features a similar shape of a vulcan.

The name "Volcán Heat" refers to Goyo's ability, the "Volcán Canister", which is an incendiary bomb that can be deployed on floors or walls and explodes when destroyed.

There also was a concept of Goyo being a lava monster crawling out of the vulcan but it was too hard to recognize the character as Goyo which is why was decided to go with a normal looking Goyo.

Thermite's label "Fire in the Hole" is my personal favorite. It features Thermite walking through the giant breach whole he just burned through a reinforced wall by using his ability. He is illuminated by the bright light of the outside behind him.

The text works especially well on this label and resembles the blocky nature of Thermite's breaching charge and breach itself.

Caveira's "Interrogation" label is based on her ability to interrogate her enemies and reveal their positions on the map. Additionally the ghost refers to the famous "Ghost Pepper". In 2007, Guinness World Records certified that the ghost pepper was the world's hottest chili pepper, 170 times hotter than Tabasco sauce.

An earlier concept for this label was based on her operator icon of holding a knife to her mouth. It was a lot more aggressive with sharp teeth, blood and a big knife with the name of the sauce on it but it was decided that we want a more friendly approach.

One of Rainbow Six Siege's most beloved characters called "Tachanka" had to get a special label. The muscular, shirtless and sweating Tachanka is walking towards the viewer with fire blasting out of his visor and flames burning behind him.

He is probably the most well known meme of the community and often gets potrayed as a lord, king or even god. People often refer to him as "Lord Tachanka".

The final sauce called "Friendly Fire" features no illustration and was originally supposed to look a lot more simplistic.

The name and the icon refer to what happens when you accidently damage or kill your teammates in Rainbow Six Siege. The red icon appears next to your name and you're unable to damage teammates any further.
