BOLIVIA | THE JESUITIC MISSIONS

写真

Here are some images I took in 2009 in Bolivia, during a tour close to Santa Cruz among the Jesuit Missions which between 1600 and 1700 were in the wild forest.
Churches are masterpieces of cabinetmaking, the result of a moving syncretism of forms and styles. Art is preserved with love and passed down from father to son; in every one of these small cities are workshops producing sculptures of great value.
San José, Santa Ana, San Miguel, San Rafael, Concepción e San Javier Churches, after being abandoned for a long period were restored in the ’70. In 1990 they were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and since 1996 an International Music Festival of Sacred Music is held.
