Content Page
Showcasing a sneak preview of all 5 articles. Tapping on the titles with lead them straight
to each article.
Article One: Ritual
This three page article shows the beauty of a simple cup of tea. It breaks down the
elements of tea and features a short anecdote I wrote (about the ritualistic evening
tea I have with my mother.)
Videos by Ash Cummings, Danica Marie and Blink respectively.
Article Two: Pyromaniac
I explore the adrenaline, feelings and emotions a pyromaniac could possibly harvest.
I play with the readers sense of touch by causing the illusion of them holding a burning
sheet of paper. I also created a visual thrill by lighting my shoes aflame.
Four cinemagraphs were created to show the beauty of fire and stunts easily done with
just a lighter and a zippo fluid pack.
An old greek myth (by James Baldwin) of how Prometheus gave fire to men is featured.
P.s. No one was hurt during the process of filming and nothing was vandalised!
Starring Sherman Kang // Videography and Cinematography by Danica Marie.
Article Three: Obsession
The cover features a couple who are obsessed with skulls and a short interview
with them. I filmed the video and created the following interaction with the glass skull
so that the characters in the ipad seem to be scrutinsing and engaging the reader.
Starring Tan Han Hui // Videography by Danica Marie and Nice Images respectively.
Article Four: War
This article shows the bittersweet relationship we have with ourselves.
I wanted to create a mirroring perspective for the reader.
Four parts of us that we battle:
1. Sloth- Laziness
2. Pit- Insecurity
3. Edge- Anger (Shown below)
4. Brave- Euphoria
(Watch Danica's Kinfolk video at the top of the page to see all four parts!)
Generated and digitally manipulated by Danica Marie.
Article Five: Places
To play with the reader's sense of hearing, I created a sense of anticipation and
imagination by only allowing the audio of the video to be heard, so that emotions and
thoughts are invoked to form a connection with places before letting them reveal the
actual scenes. A poem about a women and the sea by the famous poet, John keats,
is also featured with a surreal film by Elena Machado which is hidden beyond the lines.
(Videos by Jack Haslehurst and Elena Machado respectively)
