I was delighted to get the opportunity to illustrate a portrait of one of my favourite illustrators Chris Judge for 'OFFSET' 2014, a creative event held in the 'Bord Gais Energy Theatre' Dublin. OFFSET has been running for five years and hosts a weekend of presentations, interviews, panel discussions and debates with the very best of Irish and International designers, animators, illustrators, advertisers, artists, photographers and more live on stage. There were 24 main speakers at the event and I was chosen to illustrate a portrait of Chris who speaking on the main stage. The portrait was featured in a book celebrating 5 years of 'OFFSET and also hung in the foyer of the theatre over the course of the event.
I decided to take inspiration from one of Chris' most enduring characters 'The Beast' who is the main protagnist in two of his very successful picture books 'The Lonely Beast' and 'The Brave Beast'. I liked the idea of the beast being friends with Chris and relaying stories of his adventures. I featured some characters and scenes reworked in my own illustration style in the speech bubble from the two picture books.
