On December 21, 1990, coal mining in our region ended.
Today there are still a few headframes and especially our mountains which are the slagheaps.

This photographic work was born from the meeting with Anaïs Boudot during a collaboration between this artist photographer and Artois Flandre Photos of which I am a member.

This work attempts to draw a parallel between the work of Hokusai with his prints of Mount Fuji and the slag heaps of Loos en Gohelle, figurehead of the UNESCO World Heritage listing of the mining basin.

Born from the work and sacrifice of man deep in the bowels of the earth, the slagheaps are the visible trace.

They are the Symbol of our mining basin just as Mount Fuji is for Japan.

Le 21 décembre 1990 s'achève l'extraction du charbon dans notre région.

Aujourd'hui subsistent quelques chevalements et surtout nos montagnes que sont les terrils.

Ce travail photographique est né de la rencontre avec Anaïs Boudot lors d’une collaboration entre cette artiste photographe et Artois Flandre Photos dont je suis membre.

Ce travail tente de faire un parallèle entre l'oeuvre d'Hokusai avec ses estampes du Mont Fuji et les terrils de Loos en Gohelle, figure de proue du classement au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO du bassin minier.

Nés du travail et du sacrifice de l'homme au plus profond des entrailles de la terre, les terrils en sont la trace visible.

Ils sont le Symbole de notre bassin minier tout comme le Mont Fuji l’est pour le Japon.
