17th International Labour Film Festival

International Labour Film Festival

International Labour Film Festival comes to be done every year in Turkey since 2006. This year it is being held 17th times. It happens  in Turkey’s major provinces Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Diyarbakir simultaneously, starting on the 1st of May that is The International Workers' Day and last until the 9th of May which is being repeated every year. After 9th of May, the Festival travels from city to city, town to town throughout of Turkey and enable access to the workers' films within the program list to many many locations. The festival, where shows and events are completely free, is also shown in trade unions, factories and neighbourhoods besides cinemas and movie theatres.

International Labour Film Festival is a non-competitive, ticket free and absolutely a free film festival. In addition to that various exhibitions are held at the festival. Worker Film Festival uses Karagoz and Şarlo figures, which it has introduced as the "festival mascot" since 2006, in all its posters and visuals. Festival mascots have also inspired banners in many actions and activities.

Our festival, which describes itself alongside the struggle for peace, labour, freedom and justice, this year on the one hand, countries drowned in blood and tears for the sake of imperialist hegemony, it was difficult for the workers to meet even the simplest vital needs, but on the other hand, new workers' movements from all over the country came to an end. It is held at a time when the struggle to protect nature continues unabated and the struggle of women to protect their identities and lives becomes social.

This year, we used the widely preferred Filmfreeway platform in the film application process for festivals. We evaluated a total of 594 film applications from all over the world. As a result of the evaluation of the films one by one by our film selection committee, it was decided to include 50 domestic and 20 foreign films at the festival this year. 43 of them are short and 27 of them are feature length, documentary, fiction, animation and experimental categories.
