Brief summary

You are required to conceptualise, storyboard, design and animate a 30-60 second mini title sequence. You’ll receive blurbs of selected books that have yet to be made into features. As a visualiser, it is your task to conceptualise the narrative and visual treatment based off of the blurb alone.

Please note that while you are required to include (hypothetical) members of the cast and crew (director, editors, producers, actors etc) and the movie title, the objective is not to include and showcase an entire cast and crew list, but rather to use the 30-60 seconds of airtime to hint at the mood, tone and context of the feature. Therefore, 3-5 titles will suffice, although, type treatment is an important aspect to consider. It must be integrated appropriately and seemlessly with your chosen media.

Next, you are required to develop a storyboard, using the down and across method, in order to visually explain how IOW 300.8 University of Pretoria Faculty of Humanities Arts Cluster Department of Visual Arts Information Design 300 you intend to animate and unfold your narrative. The intention of the storyboard is to provide conceptual options. It acts as a guide to plan your scenes ahead of time and avoid unnecessary filming/editing/designing/animating. The storyboard must be convincing and all angles, lighting and atmosphere must be included here. From there, you’ll refine and develop an appropriate visual style for final animation.

Design Strategy

The chosen blurp for this project, is Held Up. The narrative follows a man looking for his abducted infant daughter, only to end up finding the dark truths about the Johannesburg underbelly. The blurp and brief were interpreted in a way that explores portraying the frustrations and struggles of looking for someone or something as well as the natural instincts surrounding family and the lengths that one might go to for them. The narrative was then further developed into the concept of chasing or being chased. This  is the main concept of the Title Sequence, the difference between being the hunter or being the hunted.
