Statues of Ottawa

Statues are ideas carved into stone, representing an image for as long as stone exists. In this sense I find it ironic to take a photograph a statue, as they are both permanent in their own way. I like to learn about the stories behind these statues and why they were made and what they represent. Which, is why I chose to photograph this series. The bronze spider Maman, is a grandiose sculpture that piqued my interest. It represents the strength, cleverness and protective nature of the artists mother. The meaning of the philosophy behind the spider is a perfect example of a story that is locked in time. Though the words of the story may be lost to time, the abstract idea and emotion will remain just the same.
