YEYE (by Lois Alexander)
Yeye pays a profound homage to Yemayá, the revered goddess of the sea and motherhood in the Yoruba pantheon. In her latest performance piece, originally crafted for the camera and now expertly adapted for the stage, choreographer and performer Lois Alexander delves into the intricate exploration of the afterlife of slavery and its profound reverberations on our contemporary existence.

Lois Alexander, a distinguished choreographer and dancer currently based in Berlin, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from The Juilliard School (2014). Her journey in the realm of dance includes a tenure in traditional German state theater, followed by the creation of her own compelling works within the independent free theater scenes of Amsterdam and Berlin. Notably, her inaugural solo choreography, Neptune, embarked on a European tour through the Aerowaves Network. Alexander draws inspiration from Tina Campt's concept of "textured identities," using the embodied language of dance and performance to articulate a migratory, in-between state from black feminist perspectives.
