Ollie
Ollie is an active sitting chair developed by us in late 2020 with Magis, while studying the Integrated Product Design master's at Politecnico di Milano.

Being designed at the height of the first wave of the pandemic, finding ways to being active while at home was a very natural topic, which is why active sitting became our main focus.
Ollie was named so when we realized all active seating elements could be resumed to an equilibrium based system, which is exactly what skateboard trucks are. Ollie is the jump, the first maneouver skaters learn, but is also the bedrock for any other tricks.
The system, as complicated as it might seem, is the exact same notion as skate trucks, a central point pivoting on an axis that is then controlled by a bearing.

What gives the skateboard flexibility in maneuvering becomes an ideal platform for active sitting, whose response can be controlled by the tightness of the bushings.
Just like the skateboards that inspired it, Ollie is designed to be easily repaired with all parts being removable and sturdy.
A functional prototype was essential to ensure the mechanism would actually work, and it is deceivingly simple, with two skate trucks connected in paralel to the seat.
