Figure and Ground
Exploring the relationship between figure and ground
The project was to design a series of six compositions using 4"x4" squares of bristol board and black art paper to create figure/ground reversal. We were given a different set of requirements for each of the six compositions.

Each composition was matted on a 6"x6" piece of black matte board.
No. 1 - Alternating stripes of the same size, running parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the composition.
No. 2 - Alternating stripes of increasing or decreasing size, running parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the composition.
No. 3 - Alternating right angles of the same size, running parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the composition.
No. 4 - Alternating right angles of increasing or decreasing size, running parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the composition.
No. 5 - Alternating right angles of the same size or of increasing or decreasing size, not running parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the composition.
No. 6 - Alternating right angles, not running parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the composition and including one elliptical curve.
