There are 7,500 lakes and ponds in New York, 70,000 miles of rivers and streams, and plenty of shorelines. And about 165 kinds of fish live in the rivers of the Empire State. For this reason, fishermen from all over the nation come to the city. Here are a few top spots to cast a line in New York:

- Lake Champlain spans the border between Vermont, Quebec, and the Adirondacks. The lake was named in 1609 after Samuel de Champlain, a French explorer. The lake's surface area is 435 square miles, with more than 70 islands and a length of more than 120 miles. Anglers from all over the country visit the lake as it is home to over 20 species of fish. Among the more than 20 fish species that live in the lake are the Atlantic salmon, Lake trout, Largemouth and Smallmouth bass, and Lake trout.

- Brooklyn Bridge Park, located directly beneath the Brooklyn Bridge and facing the Brooklyn side of the East River, is another great place to go fishing in New York City. With breathtaking views of New York Harbor, the Brooklyn Bridge, and even the entire city, the park spans more than a mile of Brooklyn's East River coastline. These waters are home to many fish species, but fishermen are particularly interested in pursuing striped and largemouth bass and various panfish.
