Reimagining the Family Photo Reflection

Today in class we presented our family photos and how we recreated or reimagined them. For my project, I decided to take an old family photo and create a print using the woodcarving skills I have been learning this semester. The process of carving the wood took me an entire week to do and it was not easy. I made plenty of mistakes in the wood such as missing pieces and scratches along the figures. However, I still feel this piece was very successful and I am happy with the results of both the woodcut and print. My project appeared to be well received in class and I enjoyed watching people get closer and personal with the wood. I felt a similar feeling when creating the woodcut because I spent nearly 12 hours working with the wood. If I were to go back and do anything different, I would have made a print in color to show off my family clothes and give the piece more detail. Overall I enjoyed the process of incorporating mixed media in this project and it was one of the things I wanted to do in this class. Being able to mix my passion for fine arts with digital photography was really interesting and I look forward to creating more projects like this.
