I did these illustrations as a part of a project for a calendar design, inspired by the flat color, thick lined art of Japanese woodblock printing, and the traditional card game Hanafuda. Hanafuda is similar to poker, but instead of having 4 suites with 12 cards each, there are 12 suites with 4 cards each, and each suite is themed after a month of the year and a seasonal plant. I'm a fan of the game itself, but when brainstorming calendar concepts it really stuck out to me with it's striking imagery and beautiful style.
