The Industrial Revolution, which started in England at the end of the 18th century, was an important development for cities. Izmir was one of the first industrialized cities in the Ottoman Empire. The study area is located in the south of İzmir Port, where production is intense, and is the area of Alsancak Harbor Behind, formerly known as Darağacı and now known as Umurbey Mahallesi. İzmir's geographical location, being a commercial city with important ports and railways has been an attraction point for investments made after the Industrial Revolution. With the deindustrialization of the cities in the 1970s, the factories in the region were abandoned, and the buildings reflecting the wide landscapes and architectural features of the period became idle. These facilities in the city center have turned into an industrial heritage. Within the scope of the project, the focus is on the development of the Izmir Port, increasing the interaction of the port with the region, and transforming, protecting and transferring the industrial heritage of the area to the future by functioning in accordance with the present.
It is aimed to develop the region with its own values in the economic, social and cultural context, thanks to its industrial structures, large interior spaces and structural features integrated into the city life. In this context, the vision of the project has been determined as "Behind Alsancak Port, Introducing and Opening Its Production to the International with New Generation Technology and Smart Port".
Within the scope of the project, the analyzes of the Alsancak Harbor Behind Region were made, its values were examined and the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were determined. The problem potentials of the field were determined and a synthesis was created according to them. As a result, a 1/5000 scale concept was determined for the study area and a strategic plan was made. 1/1000 Conservation Development Plan and Settlement Plan have been prepared. Adhering to the upper scale decisions, 1/500 Urban Design Project was built in the Eski Şark Industry area, which is one of the industrial heritages in the idle area.
