D&AD Dressing the Screen

D&AD New Blood Entry.

The brief was to create a bi-lingual identity for British Council's exhibition "Dressing The Screen: Rise of the Fashion Film". The identity had to link fashion and film in one visual message working over a variety of different platforms.

The concept I created was a circular motif representing the aperture-stops found in filmography - I used this alongside imagery provided by D&AD to create an identity representing both film and fashion. The circular pattern appeared over several formats in both print and digital formats. Inspiration was taken from fashion magazines, where strong sans-serif fonts would be used (finding a font proved tricky where Russian letters were also required). Alongside the softer pastel colour palette that also appeared throughout the identity.

Altogether, a strong visual identity was created and worked effectively over different formats and representations. The simple design was created with both film and fashion interests in mind, creating design which would appeal to a wider market.

Programmes used included Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator
