Hydraulic Mosaic was born in France in the second half of the Sec. XIX. Due to its excellent characteristics of durability and resistance, but also due to its characteristic of a fantastic decorative element, the Hydraulic Mosaic gains great popularity and quickly gains fashion in Spain and Portugal, as well as in the rest of Europe.

Due to the strong presence in the world of Portugal, Spain and France, namely due to their colonies, the Hydraulic Mosaic gained notoriety around the world as a decorative and architectural element. In the 1950s, with the appearance of ceramic floors, Hydraulic Mosaic was used less and less until it fell into deep oblivion. In Portugal, of the hundreds of factories and artisans that manufactured Hydraulic Mosaics, only two or three remain.
