SPOT THE DIFFERENCE
The Project
To create a watch that looks identical to the example given. This was to be done using Adobe Illustrator and the principles of design learned previously in the course. The audience was 28-42 year old males and females who are looking for realistic designs.
Sketching
Since I was referencing an actual image, my sketching process was much different from this project than my many others. I spent time trying to really nail down the shape of the objects ensure their similarity. I spent a lot of time in this part of the process in order to understand what shapes came together to make the watch.
Struggles
I had a lot of struggles with this project. In order to make it look realistic and similar to the reference watch, I had to spend most of my project trying to make the shapes the same. I felt as though I really struggled with getting the watch bands to be the same size and shape. Not only that, but the same texture and color. This watch was all similar colors but each of those colors had dimension, and that made things difficult.
Successes
I was able to have some great successes in this project as well. At first, I really struggled with adding a gradient to the watch fact that matched the reference. After some heavy trial and error, I was able to actually add a very similar gradient that made the watch fact look realistic! I was also able to accurately match the colors which also made my project look and feel even more realistic.
The Result
The result was a piece of work that I am really proud of. I was able to push my skills and create a realistic image of a watch that matched the reference well! The watch on the left is the reference photo and the watch on the right was my recreation of it.
