That is not a Shark
It occurred to me, that I have spent a great deal of my life worried about things that are not important, or, worse(!), not even there. And, of course, in doing so I have often been willfully ignorant of what really required my attention. The odd combination of imagery seemed to fit my totally late self-realization.
I have been debating the title of this work, I was thinking: Ce n'est pas un Requin ("That is not a Shark" - or something close to that). Yeah, like Rene Magritte’s, “This is not a Pipe.” On second thought . . . Why not call it that?! Why hide the obvious?
This was my beginning sketch. I had hidden the rubber duck in the roses only to hide it from our dog . . . i was immediately struck with how silly it looked and the composition grew from there.
