Roger Corman
An Academy Award winning film producer, Roger Corman has been photographed effortlessly by Photographer Alan Sheldon. The above photograph being taken for United International Pictures with the use of Press and internal publicity. This piece is acts as a classic Hollywood portrait with traditionally complex lighting. Using a single light on Corman, whilst another glaring into the background behind Corman.

Creative Direction
Despite the apparant simplicity of this Photography, it very much presented lots of challenges, lighting had to be  tested copius amounts of times due to the importance of shadow and higlights within the photo. After various test shots I was able to see the similarity of the original piece to the photos I was taking.

Model:
First of all, it is clear to see the monumental age gap between both subjects, thus making my piece not as close to the original as expected in the brief. However, my reasoning behind choosing this model is simply because I wanted to bring the Classic Hollywood look into a more contemporary affair. As well as this, I looked at the facial structure and features such as the shape and depth of the eyes when choosing a model.

Wardrobe and Styling:
Simple white collared shirt with top button done up, of course! Other details of styling include brushing hair to side (which would not stay!)

Pose and Staging:
When it came to posing, Ollie crouched on the ground to allow a comfortable yet appropriate staging. This in-tern allowed me to gain the correct style of photo, with Ollie in a  slighty leant forwards position. Taking the photos just above the eye-line allowed me to get as close to the original Portrait of Corman as I could. White backdrop used also.

Composition:
A portrait with a symmetrical feel to it, the shot taken with the target at the central most position of the face. However, to gain an almost accurate look a-like the face is slightly right of the camera.

Technical Considerations

Two light sources were present at the shoot. The first one being a snooted spot focused behind the model onto the white background, giving a bounce of light to surround the model, this allowed the correct shadows to gain a successful photograph with. Second light was a snooted spot with honeycomb, this light focused on the model, positioned slightly in front of the eye-line as it was within Sheldon's piece.

Camera:
Shot with a Nikon D90 camera using an 85mm Lens
Set manually with a shutter speed of 1/125
Apeture was set to f2.8

Action:
The shoot to approximately 1.5 hours, this included camera and lighting set-up, model briefing and light testing.
Taking a total of 60+ photos gave me a massive variation to look through, edit in Photoshop and choose to use as finals.
