SNHU Worn Tome 3D Model
The Artifact is a 3-D model and small animation of a mysterious tome. It has a bound leather face, with weathered pages on the inside. The pages are torn, due to the whims of time.
In creating the artifact, it was going step by step in the creating process. After looking up reference photos and sketching a rough outline, the sculpting process started with a few rough models, after finding the correct shapes to mold, I shaped it accordantly and placed textures on the model to finish it initially.
During polishing, I relearned how to apply textures and created bitmaps for the textures I implemented, while resulting the model to appear fuller.
3D model creation is the main thing I learned, especially with the 3DS Max application. I learned basic skill with aftereffects when editing the renders. I learned how to apply textures using bitmaps and I learn the process of 3D creation and what to watch for when creating.  This was a skill learned during the process, so the learning process was a big factor in the creation of the model. Many mistakes were made before any progress and made the polishing more crucial. The biggest challenge was learning to create the shapes a needed without creating ngons, as I created a lot within the first creation of the tome.
The artifact was improved greatly by fixing of textures placed on the model. In the first placement, I had no idea what I was doing as establish the texture in the wrong orientation and in the wrong scale. Going back to fix this really helped the model as a whole. Another thing was the shape, as in the beginning, I settled for a thin book since I was not skilled in modeling. Using some of the tools in the application, I was able to create a fullness for the tome that I wasn’t able to before. I took the feedback in stride with its creation and development. Having a outside perspective towards your creation can help you see what you can’t at times.
