Fiskgjusen / Product design

Industrial Design
Kayak fishing is a growing sport and trend, in the United States as well as in Scandinavia. This trend has started a development of kayaks suited to the fisherman’s specific needs, different from traditional kayaks especially regarding stability and equipment. Most fishing kayaks of today are rotationally molded in polyethylene. Some are also made in fiber glass or wood. Fiskgjusen is specifically designed to be manufactured in carbon fibre, which reduces the weight with approximatley 30%. With a unique design, suited for the fisherman’s needs, it is sturdy and stable yet light and flexible.

This kayak is designed by three students at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, in their final year of their master program in Product Development and Engineering. The project was a collaboration with the company
Midnight Composites.
