Vancouver 2010 Torch Design
The Vancouver 2010 design team worked with Bombarier to art direct the design the Olympic and Paralympic Torches. Many considerations were made so that 14000 torches could be made at a reasonable cost while guaranteeing the torches would function in all weather conditions during the relay across Canada. The design takes cues from the Vancouver 2010 Look of the Games, reflecting the Canadian landscape in winter. The air intake for the torch is the shape of a maple leaf, turning a functional requirement into a metaphor of Canada's spirit fuelling the Vancouver 2010 Games.
