SPHEARA
As a geometric entity, sphere has a full potential to create various spaces and languages. By studying the hypothesis of Philibert de l'Orme, we discovered various features of sphere. Knowing proper tools/software is an important factor but true knowledge comes from the historical understanding of geometrical properties and the reasoning behind it. 'Sphaera' is situated in Piazza Leonardo in front of the Politecnico building, which is an active and social space. Our aim is to create a permeable structure which corresponds to its surrounding. By using a grid consists of circles with various sizes, a flexible path is created along the site. This pattern is further ad- opted different heights and used as modular urban furniture (seating, plant base, garbage can). Different appearances of the main structure is based on the different functional uses. Inner spheres are performance areas, therefore the space is designed to improve its acoustic performance. Whereas, in the outher spheres, in order to have a calmer appearance and an open space, a translucent skin is preferred
